I study computational peptide design in areas that concern drug development and discovery. Specifically, I focus on non-canonical amino acids and their potential to drastically increase the available sidechain conformational space. A larger conformational space enables creation of novel therapeutics with greater binding affinity than the body’s naturally occurring proteins. Such therapeutics can be used to modulate abnormal protein-protein interactions and consequently eliminate the symptoms of many diseases.
